Josh was born and raised on the Scottish island of Bute before joining the UK armed forces at the tender age of sixteen in a quest for travel & adventure, seeing service in the first Gulf War, Namibia and Bosnia. In late 1994 he left the military to work in television news, taking him to some of the world’s most dangerous places, beaming back the news live via satellite and winning various awards in the process with Sky News (Afghanistan, Iraq & Kosovo) and Aljazeera English covering the Arab Spring uprisings in Libya, Tunisia, Egypt & Syria.

His photography journey began in 2017 after redundancy from the Aljazeera English Channel in Qatar, where he covered events in the Middle East and beyond, including the Maidan Revolution in Ukraine, the onset of the war in Donbas, the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, US Presidential elections in Washington DC and the funeral of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela in South Africa.

“I took a year off, bought a Sony mirrorless camera and lenses and headed north to Iceland, Finland, Norway and Sweden, chasing the Northern Lights in an attempt to find a sense of peace after what seemed like a lifetime covering war and disaster”.

His photography has been featured by the Sony Alpha Universe and he’s often found in the Arctic Circle capturing the magic of the north, when not begging for a photo pass to shoot images of his favourite bands in concert or hiking up a mountain to chase the sunrise.

His recent images of Irish music legends Cry Before Dawn featured on their Irish Number 1 album “Open Water”.
